The spotlight today is on queerness and its intersection with Indonesian and Indian colonialism. Rarely do these themes collide, yet in this program, guest curators Marischka Verbeek and Jasper Albinus, bring both narratives to the forefront simultaneously. They invite artists from the community to examine history through a queer and decolonised lens, allowing untold stories, unseen identities and forgotten characters to emerge. How do these artists navigate their diverse identities? How do they carve out space for these narratives within their creative work while reflecting on their place in the world?

The program will feature a new piece of spoken word art by Jasper Albinus and the presence of playwright Melissa Knollenburg, musician Robinson Jouwe and photographer Prins de Vos. In this afternoon of art and words, they will venture into uncharted territory, exploring the past with a critical eye and looking toward a future through a lens of respectful curiosity.

Queerness staat meer dan ooit in de belangstelling, net als het Indonesische/Indische koloniale verleden. Zelden worden deze thema’s verbonden, en zeker niet in de gevestigde culturele wereld. In dit programma zetten gastcuratoren Marischka Verbeek en Jasper Albinus deze combinatie juist centraal!

Zij nodigen kunstenaars uit de gemeenschap uit om vanuit een queer en dekoloniaal perspectief naar deze geschiedenis te kijken. Welke onbekende queer verhalen komen bovendrijven? Hoe ervaren de kunstenaars hun combinatie van identiteiten? Hoe creëren ze ruimte hiervoor in hun werk en reflecteren ze vanuit hun positie op de wereld waarin ze leven? Spoken word artiest Jasper Albinus schrijft een nieuwe tekst en toneelschrijver Melissa Knollenburg is van de partij, net als muzikant Robinson Jouwe en fotograaf Prins de Vos. Op deze middag vol kunst en gesprekken verkennen ze samen met het publiek nieuw terrein. Kritisch en onderzoekend naar het verleden, vol nieuwsgierigheid naar de toekomst.
