A Conversation on Joy
his gathering is part of the exhibition Why You Laughing? programming which centers joy from a Black queer and trans perspective. The exhibition is currently on display at MaMA Rotterdam from November 1st to January 5th. Why You Laughing is a collaboration between MaMA and program maker Aisha Bah. MaMA is a platform for visual culture in Rotterdam, where young talent develops through productions and presentations at the interface of visual art and popular culture.
Join us for an evening that begins with a grounding sound ceremony by House of Vibrations and flows into deep conversations. Together we’ll explore joy as a vital force for wellbeing, healing and resistance within BiPOC queer and trans communities. Moderated by Myra Fanta Bodian, we welcome you into our intentional space for sharing, where you’re invited to speak, listen and connect with others on how joy shapes your individual and collective lives. The focus is on conversation among each other, creating a supportive environment where everyone’s voice is valued. The evening concludes with a celebratory moment for continued connection and conversation, offering a chance to cheers and reflect on the role of joy in our lives together.
