A Seat At The Table
WHAT: A Seat at the Table
WHEN: Sunday, November 16th, 17:00 - 20:00
WHERE: The Hole (Zoutziedersstraat 20, Rotterdam)
“Without community there is no liberation, only the most vulnerable and temporary armistice between an individual and her oppression. But community must not mean a shedding of our differences, nor the pathetic pretence that these differences do not exist.” —Audre Lorde
🥘Collective dinners are often at the centre of community, fulfilling the basic necessity of filling our stomachs, and offering space for connection and enjoyment. For queer people, nourishing caring communities is especially vital to strengthen our bonds as we strive for liberation. However, throughout history, queer movements have often excluded the most marginalised members of their communities in order to appeal to the liberal mainstream, which raises the question: If we eat together, who gets a seat at the table?
We invite you to join us at the dinner table with Reading Rhythms Club and Katayun Taraporevala for an experimental reading menu. Expect delicious food, reading moments, collective table-cloth annotations, open reflections, and broken telephone games, where things might get lost in translation and found again while chatting over dessert. We will share a three course dinner and dive into the role of food in forging connections and the importance of queer community building.
📖 Reading Rhythms Club (@readingrhythmsclub) is an experimental reading group that that, making use of reading methods, aims to understand different facets of political, social, and economic violence and sketch strategies of resistance.
