BOYS WON’T BE BOYS presents personal and honest stories about masculinity, and is a vibrant safe space for a diverse group of performers with a talent for being human.
We're different, so what? Nobody fits neatly into the box of 'man', and that's precisely what we want to celebrate. By sharing all these different stories, we break down prejudices and stereotypes, and we get closer to each other. Boys Won't Be Boys is both a cheerful protest and an ode to the concept of man.
The initiator, armed with killer heels, Rikkert van Huisstede presents a colorful parade of performers who tell, sing, rap, joke, dance, in short: we pull out all the stops this evening. And boxes? They are there for you to dress up as who you really are.
The concept grew into a large social theater project in which more than 100 performers and many young people are given the opportunity to express themselves freely as people and theater makers.

WERVELENDE THEATERHAPPENING MET ECHTE MENSENBOYS WON’T BE BOYS is een wervelende collage van mensen die zingen, dansen, dichten, grappen, musiceren en vertellen over hun persoonlijke levens. Ze stellen zich kwetsbaar op in hun verhalen rond het thema mannelijkheid. Iedereen heeft dagelijks te maken met verwachtingen die horen bij het hokje waar je in geplaatst bent. Het is daarom opvallend dat nadenken over gender wordt gezien als iets voor gemarginaliseerde groepen. Is het niet voor iedereen fijn om los van stereotypen te leven? "We mogen er trots op zijn dat we open zijn, lief of flamboyant”, aldus initiator Rikkert van Huisstede.
