Elmers Old and New Spektakel Festival
On Sunday, December 29, 2024, the unconventional Amsterdam rapper and producer Elmer will be performing her ‘ELMER’S OLD AND NEW SPECTACLE FESTIVAL!’ in the Grote Zaal of Paradiso. It will be her biggest solo concert to date.
Elmer is the pseudonym of Merel Pauw, a rapper and producer from Amsterdam who combines her love for hip-hop with provocative rawness and theater. Her music is said to be inspired by electro-funk and artists like Peaches, Mr. Oizo, and De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig. Elmer addresses themes such as fear of commitment, self-hatred, and the hypocrisy of the left-wing individual, always combined with humor, self-deprecation, and filthy lyrics.
2023 was the year of Elmer: she won Paradiso’s talent competition the Zonneprijs, participated in De Slimste Mens, and was featured on the front page of Volkskrant Magazine. Her popularity skyrocketed; at the beginning of the year, she gave a concert in Doka for 150 visitors, performed at Lowlands and Pukkelpop in the summer, and gave a sold-out show in Tolhuistuin for 550 fans in the fall.

Elmer is a Dutch rapper and artist who combines provocative rawness, disarming honesty and the colorful world of comics in an unapologetic act that brings a much needed breath of fresh air to the Dutch music scene. He (or she, whatever you feel like) is inspired by Peaches, Mr. Oizo and De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig, mixes electronic funky beats and lyrics with humor and self reflection, and addresses topics such as fear of commitment, panic attacks and gender equality.
