Film: Housekeeping for Beginners (2023) - ‘Queer in film’

The lesbian Dita has turned her house in Skopje into a refuge for outsiders like herself, gathering a diverse collection of people around her. She has never wanted to become a mother, but circumstances force her to take care of her friend's two daughters: the little troublemaker Mia and the rebellious teenager Vanesa. The three strong personalities clash severely, but against all odds, they grow into a close-knit family that must fight to stay together.

With a mix of professional and debut actors and utilizing interactions that often arose spontaneously, acclaimed filmmaker Goran Stolevski ('You won’t be alone') explores the universal values of family, both our biological family and the family we choose for ourselves. 'Housekeeping for Beginners' managed to win awards at many international film festivals.

"Queer in Film" on Sunday, April 14, 3:40 PM

On Sunday, April 14, the next edition of "Queer in Film" will take place, in collaboration with the Gooi & Vecht Inclusive Foundation and the Municipality of Gooise Meren. After the film, there will be an opportunity to discuss it further while enjoying a drink, courtesy of the Municipality of Gooise Meren. For the "Queer in Film" program, we work together with the Gooi & Vecht Inclusive Foundation. This Foundation is committed to local rainbow policy to improve the social acceptance, safety, and visibility of LGBTI+ individuals. Films in the "Queer in Film" program are carefully selected to align with this mission and aim to provide a platform for various stories about the LGBTI+ community.

De lesbische Dita heeft van haar huis in Skopje een toevluchtsoord gemaakt voor outsiders zoals zijzelf en daarmee een bonte verzameling mensen om haar heen verzameld. Ze heeft nooit moeder willen worden, maar wordt door omstandigheden gedwongen om zich over de twee dochters van haar vriendin te ontfermen: de kleine druktemaker Mia en de opstandige tiener Vanesa. De drie sterke persoonlijkheden botsen flink, maar tegen alle verwachtingen in groeien ze uit tot een hecht gezin dat moet knokken om bij elkaar te kunnen blijven.

Met een mix van professionele en debuterende acteurs en gebruikmakend van de interacties die vaak spontaan ontstonden, onderzoekt de veelgeprezen filmmaker Goran Stolevski (‘You won’t be alone’) de universele waarden van familie, zowel onze biologische familie als de familie die we zelf uitkiezen. ‘Housekeeping for Beginners’ wist op vele internationale filmfestivals prijzen in de wacht te slepen.

‘Queer in film’ op zondag 14 april, 15.40 uur

Op zondag 14 april vindt de volgende editie van ‘Queer in Film’  plaats, in samenwerking met Stichting Gooi & Vecht Inclusief en Gemeente Gooise Meren. Na de film is er gelegenheid tot napraten onder het genot van een drankje, aangeboden door Gemeente Gooise Meren. Voor het programma ‘Queer in Film’ werken we samen met Stichting Gooi & Vecht Inclusief. Deze Stichting zet zich in voor het lokale regenboogbeleid om de sociale acceptatie, veiligheid en zichtbaarheid van LHBTI+-personen te verbeteren. Films in het ‘Queer in Film’-programma worden zorgvuldig samengesteld passend bij deze missie en met als doel om verschillende verhalen over de LHBTI+-gemeenschap een podium te geven.
