Gendermonologen - Pride Alkmaar

Being yourself is easy; it's others who make it difficult.

"It's scientifically proven that you can form an intuitively good judgment about someone in two seconds. So, if you look at me now, what do you see? What did you think? In which category do you place me: boy, girl, non-binary? What is that anyway? How does it look?"

"Gendermonologen" focuses on the personal stories of five young people. Stories about what it means not to fit into the binary gender mold. Through song, dance, and text, they talk about finding their place in our society and everything that comes with it, such as labels and expectations, public toilets, and the very first love as their 'new' selves.

Five different people who have one thing in common: they challenge themselves and our society. They are constantly the subject of discussion because they choose to be themselves and claim their own happiness.

“Het is wetenschappelijk bewezen dat je in twee seconden een intuïtief goed oordeel over iemand kunt vellen. Dus als je nu naar mij kijkt, wat zie je? Wat dacht je? In welke categorie plaats je mij: jongen, meisje, non-binair? Wat is dat eigenlijk? Hoe ziet dat eruit?”

In Gendermonologen staan de persoonlijke verhalen van vijf jonge mensen centraal. Verhalen over wat het betekent om niet in het binaire gender plaatje te vallen. In zang, dans en tekst vertellen zij over je plek vinden in onze samenleving en alles wat daarbij komt kijken zoals: labels en verwachtingen, openbare toiletten en de allereerste liefde als je ‘nieuwe’ ik.

Vijf verschillende mensen die één ding gemeen hebben: ze dagen zichzelf en onze maatschappij uit. Ze zijn constant het onderwerp van discussie, omdat ze ervoor kiezen om zichzelf te zijn en hun eigen geluk op te eisen.
