Movie - All Our Fears / Wszystkie nasze strachy (2021)

Every month, in collaboration with the Gooi and Vecht Inclusive foundation, Filmtheater Hilversum organizes a Rainbow Night, during which they screen the most beautiful queer films with a short introduction beforehand. In August, the Polish drama 'All Our Fears' is on the agenda.

About the film:
Daniel, an artist, comes from the countryside and grew up within the structures of the Catholic church. His relationship with Olek takes place in secret. The suicide of a religious lesbian girl from his village compels him to fight for tolerance. He tries to unite the small community, but everyone turns their back on him.

'All Our Fears' is based on true events. The film's protagonist seeks liberation from superficiality. He belongs to two opposing worlds (the Catholic church and the LGBTQ+ community) and would like to build a bridge between these two worlds. This causes profound loneliness. His struggle makes us realize that reality is much more paradoxical and complex than the oppressive cultural dichotomies in which any deviation from the norm is stigmatized, and anyone who strays from the doctrine is disciplined.

Iedere maand organiseert het Filmtheater Hilversum in samenwerking met stichting Gooi en Vecht Inclusief een Rainbow Night, waarin ze de mooiste queer films vertonen met vooraf een korte inleiding. In augustus staat het Poolse drama 'All Our Fears' op het programma. 

Over de film: Daniel, een kunstenaar, komt van het platteland en groeide op binnen de structuren van de katholieke kerk. Zijn relatie met Olek vindt in het geheim plaats. De zelfmoord van een religieus, lesbisch meisje uit zijn dorp dwingt hem om te vechten voor tolerantie. Hij probeert de kleine gemeenschap te verenigen, maar iedereen keert hem de rug toe.

'All Our Fears' is gebaseerd op waargebeurde gebeurtenissen. De hoofdpersoon van de film probeert zich te bevrijden van oppervlakkigheid. Hij behoort tot twee tegengestelde werelden (de katholieke kerk en de LHBTI- gemeenschap) en zou graag een brug willen slaan tussen deze twee werelden. Het veroorzaakt grote eenzaamheid. Zijn strijd leert ons beseffen dat de werkelijkheid veel paradoxaler en gecompliceerder is dan de onderdrukkende culturele tegenstellingen, waarbij elke afwijking van de norm wordt gestigmatiseerd en iedereen wordt gedisciplineerd die afdwaalt van de doctrine.
