Movie - La Amiga de mi Amiga (2022)
About the film
“Do you think they’re going to eat this? They’re dykes, they’re vegetarians.” In the middle of her toughest heartbreak so far Zaida brings sausages and ham to her best friends’ lesbian dinner party. Her ex-lover Gabriela broke up with her without explanation and all she got was a self-help book. Zaida feels miserable and lost and seeks solace with her picture-perfect-lesbian-couple friends who just had their second child. But to get over Gabriela she actually needs something stronger than wise conversation partners.
Her best friend Rocio has a new lover Lara and can’t wait to introduce her to Zaida, something that Rocio will regret later… Welcome to the Spanish L-World, where girls date girls and the line between friendship and love is blurred and everyone has a double agenda. Zaida Carmona, director and protagonist, celebrates the lesbian, artistic, snobbish, and activist lifestyle with a strong dose of humor and self-mockery. In addition, the film is full of cinematic references reaching out to Eric Rohmer during cinema dates and conversations in the film.
La amiga de mi amiga is Carmona’s first feature film and was produced independently with crowdfunding and self-financing “because the film was born out of a physical need to shoot it.” Marc Ferrer – a filmmaker himself and the only (!) male actor in the film — helped her write the script and dared her to just go for it with a ‘do it yourself’ mentality.
