"Omelas" - Floor van der Jeugd | Mirte Koerts
Omelas is a solo performance about a Queer woman who loses herself in her activism. Can leftists radicalize? Can you actually still enjoy the world? And what does it mean to be a good person?
A few days ago I walked across a zebra crossing. So I crossed a woman like that. A WOMAN you know, and it was all so gooey. Sunlight, perfect, breeze through her hair. We crossed paths. Walk past each other. I looked back. And she too. God knows why, but she looked back too. And we walked on. The prettiest people are always passersby, right?
We fall madly in love. She teaches me all about the world. About the whole ecosystem and climate and stuff. And racism. About feminism and the poverty line. It sounds so mega banal now, as if she just went through every topic and threw a few expletives in between, so to speak. But it was really like things came together in my head for the first time. Because like a beautiful little weaver she brought all those things together. Things I felt, but couldn't really explain. She does.
