Opening UQCF-exposities Bibliotheek Utrecht

During the Utrecht Queer Culture Festival, various queer artists will exhibit their work in the Neude Library. These exhibitions will be festively opened on Saturday evening, October 7. This is also the opening of the Utrecht Queer Culture Festival program in the Neude Library. The opening program starts at 8 p.m. in the Great Hall on the ground floor. The exhibitions can then be seen until October 14.

Exhibition Large HallIn the niches of the Large Hall (ground floor), four artists, each with their own connection to the LGBTQIA+ community, each from a different generation and their own needs, willto tell a queer story. Through their art they want to make the great diversity within the queer community visible to all residents of Utrecht. Art is connecting, art provokes discussion and leads to awareness. They want to show that there is room for the LGBTQIA+ community in Utrecht and that everyone matters and can be there. The four artists participating have therefore stayed close to themselves. They share what is important in their lives with the city, making their story public in the hope that their art helps other people to be who they (want to) be. 

Participating artists are: Carla Emmink (she/her), Brian van Nunen (he/him), Inge Brekelmans (them/them), Pieter Hoekstra (he/him).

On the second floor, photographer Henja Kooijman exhibits portraits of Utrecht's queer people.

Tijdens het Utrecht Queer Culture Festival zullen in Bibliotheek Neude diverse queer kunstenaars hun werk exposeren. Op zaterdagavond 7 oktober a.s. zullen deze exposities feestelijk worden geopend. Dit is tegelijkertijd de opening van het Utrecht Queer Culture Festival programma in de Bibliotheek Neude. Het openingsprogramma start om 20.00 uur in de Grote hal op de begane grond. De exposities zijn vervolgens tot en met 14 oktober te zien.

Expositie Grote halIn de nissen van de Grote hal (begane grond) zullen vier kunstenaars met ieder hun eigen verbinding tot de LHBTQIA+ gemeenschap, ieder uit een andere generatie en hun eigen behoefte hunqueer verhaal te vertellen. Door middel van hun kunst willen ze de grote diversiteit binnen de queer gemeenschap voor alle inwoners van Utrecht zichtbaar maken. Kunst is verbindend, kunst verleid tot discussie en leidt tot bewustwording. Ze willen laten zien dat er ook in Utrecht plaats is voor de LHBTQIA+ gemeenschap en dat iedereen er toe doet en er mag zijn. De vier kunstenaars die meedoen zijn daarom dicht bij zichzelf gebleven. Wat in hun leven belangrijk is delen ze met de stad, maken hun verhaal openbaar in de hoop dat hun kunst andere mensen helpt om te zijn wie ze (willen) zijn. Expositie tweede verdiepingOp de tweede verdieping exposeert fotograaf Henja Kooijman met portretten van Utrechts queer personen.
