PUNKS SHAKE EKKO TO ITS CORE DURING PRIDE

PRIDE, but make it PUNK. Inspired by riot grrrls (x/v/m) from past and present and punks of all kinds, sizes, sexes, and genders. A night to scream together and deliver a metaphorical punch to the patriarchy. Into the breach, into the moshpit!

Grandmas House
Armed to the teeth with guitars, drums, and a sandpaper voice, Grandmas House is a leading band in British queercore. Like their compatriots Lambrini Girls and Dream Wife, the Bristol trio draws inspiration from contemporary post-punk like IDLES and 70s and 80s punk like The Slits and The Raincoats. As a true punk band, Grandmas House started to shout about injustice in all forms and sizes, learning to play their instruments afterward. They've become quite proficient, as evidenced by fiery shows at Left of the Dial, Grauzone, and Reading Festival.

THAMES
Concert venues, festivals, but especially the patriarchy: THAMES demolishes everything in its path. Frontman Merlyn Baartman's British blood runs through his veins, but it was only after moving to Amsterdam that he managed to distance himself from the emotional tundra called Great Britain and fully embrace himself. Fun, Deadletter and Fontaines D.C., but on the upcoming EP Life Lessons For The Patriarchy, THAMES fights the status quo even more furiously. Toxic masculinity? Burn it down! Discrimination? Burn it down! The dance floor of EKKO? Burn it down!

Consensual Peggy
Of course, Utrecht’s finest riot grrrls cannot be missing at PRIDE = PUNK. Consensual Peggy is a whirlwind fueled by disbelief and anger. One moment the band is your best friend, then your mommy, and later your arch-enemy. You never know how you'll encounter Consensual Peggy, but the band always fights patriarchal systems with just enough hysteria. They might not win the Nobel Prize for Virtuosity, but has that ever mattered for a good punk band? Exactly.

PRIDE, maar dan PUNK. Geïnspireerd door riot grrrls (x/v/m) uit heden en verleden, en punks van alle soorten, maten, seksen en genders. Een avond om het samen uit te schreeuwen en het patriarchaat eens flink in de spreekwoordelijke maag te stompen. De bres op, de moshpit in!

Grandmas House
Tot de tanden bewapend met gitaren, drums en een stem van schuurpapier, is Grandmas House een van de vooraanstaande bands uit de Britse queercore. Net als landgenoten Lambrini Girls en Dream Wife laat het trio uit Bristol zich inspireren door eigentijdse postpunk à la IDLES, maar ook door de 70s en 80s punk van The Slits en The Raincoats. Zoals het een goede punkband betaamt begonnen de leden van Grandmas House een band om te kunnen schreeuwen over onrecht in alle vormen en maten, en leerden ze pas daarna hun instrumenten te bespelen. Inmiddels kunnen ze dat best aardig, getuige vurige shows op Left of the Dial, Grauzone en Reading Festival.

THAMES
Poppodia, festivals, maar vooral de patriarchie: THAMES sloopt alles dat zich op zijn pad begeeft. Zoals zijn tongval verraadt stroomt er Brits bloed door de aderen van frontman Merlyn Baartman, maar pas na een verhuizing naar Amsterdam lukte het hem afstand te nemen van de emotionele toendra die Groot-Brittannië heet en zichzelf volledig te omarmen. Leuk hoor, Deadletter en Fontaines D.C., maar op de aanstaande EP Life Lessons For The Patriarchy bindt THAMES nog nét wat furieuzer de strijd aan met de status quo. Toxic masculinity? De fik erin! Discriminatie? De fik erin! De dansvloer van EKKO? De fik erin!

Consensual Peggy
Natuurlijk morgen Utrecht’s finest riot grrrls niet ontbreken op PRIDE = PUNK. Consensual Peggy is een wervelwind die zich het liefst laat voeden door ongeloof en woede. Het ene moment is de band je beste vriend, dan weer je mommy en even later je aartsvijand. Hoe je Consensual Peggy treft weet je nooit van tevoren, maar vast staat dat de band in elke hoedanigheid met precies voldoende hysterie strijdt tegen patriarchale systemen. De Nobelprijs voor Virtuositeit gaat Consensual Peggy naar verwachting niet winnen, maar heeft dat er bij een goede punkband ooit toe gedaan? Precies.
