WHAT YOU SEE RESEARCH | Sue-Ann Bel & Art Srisayam

Close to the skin of a creative process

Together with Het Huis Utrecht, Maas theater en dans and Jonge Harten festival, What You See creates space for experiment and vulnerability. And invites you close to the skin of a creative process. Theater makers Sue-Ann Bel and Art Wutthinan Srisayam focus on a young audience. They share questions, insights and feelings that they would have liked to hear more about when they were young.

With My period is our period Sue-Ann Bel dives back into the time before starting to menstruate. Why do we talk so little about the menstrual cycle when almost half the people on this earth bleed monthly? How do you create a safe space to share about this?

With Dad dancer and choreographer Art Wuthinan Srisayam puts his kitchen on stage and explores what he was spoon-fed. By stirring, smelling and grinding fresh spices Art hopes to get closer to his late father with this solo performance.

This Saturday afternoon they will open their research for you!

What You See Research 2024 is part of From here onwards, a joint research of Maas theater en dans (Rotterdam), What You See Festival (Utrecht) and Jonge Harten Festival (Groningen). From a need to approach the shifting worldviews of younger generations in an active way, From here onwards invites three theatre makers to experiment with new work for children and young people. In addition to Sue-Ann and Art, Guiliano Pinas opens his research on his place and that of the ballroom community in society at Jonge Harten. All three of the researches, from intimate to universal, touch on questions of identity: who am I, where do I belong, and how do I move in the space I have?
The next step of the research can be seen in the Maaspodium in Rotterdam on December 19, 20, and 21.
